Becoming licensed in real estate is a big decision. One that we understand takes a lot of consideration and preparation. While a brokerage would typically begin a relationship at the stage of licensing, we at Dexter Associates Realty are always there to answer any questions before. Once you pass the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course, we can meet with you to talk about the next steps. You will have to apply for the Applied Practice Course through BCREA.
This is a recently redesigned course that will help you gain knowledge on how to practice real estate. We are very familiar with this course as three of our managers (Kevin Skipworth, Tony Ioannou and Sharon Wayman) currently are instructors in the course. And Kevin and Tony were instrumental in the redesign having spent 2 years working with BCREA on the structure and content.
At Dexter Associates Realty, we believe that training and support are a fundamental part of a brokerage’s duties. We are able to start your training before Applied Course begins so you are well prepared to take on the course. From the beginning of your career at Dexter, we take on the role of being your mentor – which is why we have the management support we do. Rather than assign you to another agent in our office, we will work with you through your transactions so your customers are well served and you receive the financial benefit and the real estate experience necessary to be successful. Our in depth, one on one training program will not only teach you the fundamentals of this business, our multi week Business Development Program will guide you as you start your career.
For the Applied Practice Course, this is what you should expect:
A Two week online course that will take you through the fundamentals of Agency, Disclosure and Contracts. You will be online with 35 other learners and two instructors (which could possibly be one of Tony, Kevin or Sharon) as you read through the content, participate in online discussions, and complete various assignments.
This will be a two day face to face component. You will be guided by an instructor through role plays that involve the process of listing and selling a property. It is very interactive but in small groups and a great way to learn firsthand what it is like to be a REALTOR®
After successfully completing these two components you will then be able to receive your license. If you had already completed your license application with us (along with providing your criminal record check) we will already have submitted that to be processed.
This is a 4.5 month component that really is about being a REALTOR®! We will guide you through this component and help you with the practical side of it. As you go through the field assignments in the course, you will provide feedback to BCREA on each of them. This is where we can truly assist you in doing that tasks of a REALTOR®.
The final component is a one day in class session that will take from your responses to the field assignment reflection questions to structure part of the day in covering areas of further development as well as going through some further aspects of being licensed to trade real estate in British Columbia. Upon successful completion your license will go from temporary to permanent for the remainder of your two year licensing cycle.
